BATMAN FINAL

Artist Statement:   

For my final project for CMDP 3700, I photographed my pink batman action figure. I have owned a set of rainbow batmen for several years. They were a present from a friend, given to me as I was moving back to the US after living in Sydney Australia for 6 years. I have lost or broken all but the purple and pink at this point. My project started by manipulating my action figure and placing it on different warning signs across Boulder Colorado.  I carried my pink batman around in my camera bag as I traveled to London to visit my family who just moved there. When in London, I focused on the idea of documentation and practicing my photographic skills. My mom was confused by my choices because she felt that all i would have to look back on was pictures of the pink batman. I love the way I remember the trip. I had several influences for this project including, touristy style photos, the movie toy story and the work of several artists who focus on photographing action figures. I feel that the end result of the project comes off as two different projects but I chose to keep them together because I can see my personal progression as a photographer over the semester.
